Laser Hair Removal

Laser hair removal is a long-term way to reduce unwanted hair on the face and body. We were the first clinic in Scotland to use the Candela GentleMax Pro Plus, a medically graded laser that combines two wavelengths so it can treat a wide range of skin types, from very fair to very dark (Fitzpatrick types 1 to 6), with suitability confirmed by a patch test.

The laser delivers a pulse of light that is absorbed by the pigment in the hair and converted to heat, damaging the follicle so it is less able to regrow hair. A built-in cooling system protects the surface of the skin and keeps treatment comfortable. Common areas include the bikini line, underarms, legs, back, chest and face.

Because hair grows in cycles and the laser only affects follicles in the active growth phase, a course is needed. Most people notice a difference after two or three sessions and need six to eight sessions in total, spaced four to eight weeks apart, with occasional maintenance afterwards. Laser offers long-term reduction rather than complete, permanent removal; hair that does regrow is usually finer and lighter.

Preparation is simple: shave the area the day before, and avoid sun exposure, tanning products and waxing or plucking in the weeks before treatment.
